Oreo Birthday Win and Fail?

...and lead us not into temptation...

It was many moons ago today that the self loathing started. And this weekend, two conversation showed me how much my efforts have paid off and reminded me how far I have to go.

The first one:

Someone I know through the Internets was looking at my Kickstarter page: (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/aydrea/white-on-the-inside-christmas)

And had this to say.

Him: Wow, you definitely got the accent down. You sound totally white!
Me: That’s my actual voice. That’s just how I sound.
Him: Oh.

And the other happened over dinner. I was eating out with a member of my blanchetourage and  I knew I was taking my chances by having chicken…and by ordering a leg and thigh instead of a breast while my friend ordered a breast. The waitress came with our food and said:

Waitress: (to him) – you’re white.

(Waitress puts his food down)

Waitress: (to me) – and you’re dark.

While I initially considered this a fail for her pointing out the painfully, shamefully obvious, I realized, that she probably can’t say this to every patron of color lest they get all uppity about the word choice. You know, like this guy. (heart you WKB!)

What do you think? Chicken fail or win? And do you prefer light or dark (meat, that is. it’s obvious what we prefer in people 🙂 ) Let us know in the comments.

And let me know when your birthday is, so I can send you a message!! Lemme know in the comments or email at oreo@theoreoexperience.com

  1. Chicken Fail.I have this deathly fear of ordering fried chicken around a lot of White people. So, it’s big fail for me as well:-) I have always liked my meat white, just a preference. I’ve tried dark meat and it just did nothing for me. Also, my birthday is November 13th.

  2. I’d say chicken fail, but I’m vegetarian so all meat is a fail to me. 🙂 I did try to eat chicken once. It wasn’t pretty. :\

      1. What happened when I tried to eat it. I totally tried to mentally psych myself up. Like..get all “grrr” and testosterone-y. But no dice.

    1. OH girl! I nearly keilld myself in the kitchen making this soup! I love to cook but rarely do it b/c I hate our galley style kitchen. There is just no room to work now I have the burn marks to prove it!! Well the soup is in the crock pot so we will see how it turns out. I used too much broth tho I used all three things of broth all 96oz! We will have soup for DAYS! I will let you know how it all turned out!! Thanks for a great dish![]

  3. Chicken sandwich is the best I would go with friends. Here in Japan I can eat it no problem and back at home with family of course. Out in public in the good ole U.S. of A I lived by this, “if it ain’t got buns hun, den… I don’t want none.” Now if I can only remember who I’m quoting this from. I probably butchered it and of course since I cannot speak RBP speech I don’t couldn’t sing the song.

  4. What DID happen to Joe and Zoe? Did they get made into toinhgt’s dinner, or did they run off for greener pastures? Nice golden light in this, despite the sadness.
